Becoming a mom gets you into the most exclusive club ever… the Mommy club. It can be the greatest experience ever with some of the best people in the world. As we get older and have kids we soon realize everything changes including the people we surround ourselves with. We start to see life and friendships for what they really are and we become a lot more selective with whom we call “friends”. Yes we will have the ones that stuck by our side over the years that have proven their loyalty and love. However, you see less of your friends that don’t have kids and replace that time with friends that do have kids… Mommy friends. You know, they’re the ones you go to for venting, borrow some children’s cold medicine and the occasional “do you think it’s contagious?” They’re there for you and understand things others cannot.
Having friends is a great thing especially when they are moms as well. A group of moms is like a support group where you don’t need to feel ashamed about being tired of chasing kids all day, driving them all over town or being up all night when someone is sick. Raising kids is a huge responsibility and it’s good for us to have people to share it with that have gone or are going through the same things.
So the next time you see a mom, reach out to her and ask how she’s doing. You may just make a new friend.
