Florida: The first year

Wow! Time really does fly when you’ve got a lot going on! This week marks one year since we packed up 6 kids and a dog and moved to Florida from Arizona. Now I know what you’re thinking… “Are they freakin crazy?!?!” Well yeah, Kind of. We wanted a change and change is what we got!

We may not have liked it in Arizona but we were comfortable there. At times comfort can make you become stagnant. It can also weaken you and make you afraid. You need to step out of your comfort zone from time to time and take some risks.

In the beginning we heard a lot of grumbles from the oldest child but as I’ve learned no matter what, teenagers will always have some kind of issues. We did our best making sure everyone was able to adjust and after some time and friends made; that’s just what happened. Everyone adjusted and became happy again.
The funny thing is once we thought we had things under control there’s nothing like a new baby to get some excitement going again! So a new year in a new place and pregnant. There is honestly never a dull moment.

Anyway, we ended up moving a year after we decided to do it. During all of the preparations to move across country we did a lot of planning. What side of town to move to, are the neighborhoods safe and so on and so forth. At no point in time did I ever prepare to lose friends but I did. So when times got a little rough for me and I needed a friend to talk to I found that some people didn’t answer the phone nor did they call back… ever. I think it’s better that way. As I get older I need to take my own advice that I give my kids… make better friend choices.

I made a comment the other day that went some thing like “The first year in a new state is like the first year of marriage. It’s stressful and exciting but in the end you're glad you did it.” I really do like it here in Florida. I’ve got all of my favorite things… the beach and my loved ones. I can’t wait to see what new adventures are on the horizon.
