Having 7 kids you would think that I know everything. Well I don’t. I know almost everything. After being a mom for 16 years motherhood still never ceases to amaze me.
This past week I took Baby J to her 6-month well child check up. I explained to the dr that I think she has baby allergies (not knowing if that’s an actual thing) and I told her that J. has been rubbing her eyes a lot and they get watery. I also told her I had a concern about her left eye which was a little swollen.
The doc took a look at it and said it looked like she may have had an infection but appeared to be clearing up on its own. She then gave me 2 options.
1.She was writing a prescription for eye drops to make sure the infection was gone completely. Now I could use that or go with Option 2. Put drops of breast milk in her eye and that would work just as well as the prescribed drops.
What the what?!?! Breast milk in her eye? The doctor laughed at my reaction and then advised me that breast milk has a lot of healing properties and works wonders.
I thought about this all through the day and once I had a chance to sit down and relax I took to Google to see what I could find on “alternative uses for breast milk” and boy oh boy I found a lot! Some very interesting, others quite disturbing but all very fascinating.
I found that breast milk could be used to heal insect bites, burns, cuts and diaper rash. Its also a pain reliever, sleep aid and soothes a sore throat. Looking to save on beauty products? Use breast milk as makeup remover, Chap Stick and contact lens solution.
Don’t believe me? Do what I did and Google it. You may be surprised at what you find. Then again if you’re one of the people that uses breast milk for purposes other than feeding your baby than you’re already ahead of the game.
And if you’re wondering yes I did see on several web sites that breast milk does heal eye infections and no I didn’t try it on Baby J. I got her the prescription instead.
