There is no such thing as a perfect mom

I’m not the best mom in the world. Even thou I like to think I’m pretty damn awesome I most certainly won’t be winning any awards for parenting in the near future. Let’s see, I curse like a sailor, have a crude sense of humor and go through a quite a few bottles of wine in a weeks time. Even thou I’m not perfect I don’t pretend to be. My kids love me and I would gladly lay down my life for my kids. The thing is we moms are entirely too hard on ourselves. We are our own worse critics… us and maybe pain in the ass mother in laws. Believe me I used to have one. But I digress; we moms are pretty damn hard on ourselves.

We’re constantly walking around like a Walking Dead extra because we stayed up late trying to get that damn to do list done that got ignored during the day because the kids, husband, neighbor and PTA all needed something from us and before we knew it the day was over.

Then there’s the little fact that we are in direct competition with all of the other moms on the block and don’t realize that they are in the trenches with us and are feeling the same way that we feel and the friendly (or not so friendly) competition is all in our sleep deprived heads!!!

Other moms are not our competition! Other moms are our sisters. They are the ones we need to be turning to when our kids and husbands are driving us crazy!

We really need to stop being so hard on ourselves. So what the house is a mess, the laundry is stacked higher than the dishes, which no longer fit in the sink. Are your kids safe, happy, fed, clean and loved?! If you answered yes to all of those then you’re doing better than you give yourself credit for and for that I salute you!

Now go on and have that second (or third) glass of wine. You deserve it.
